Cleaning Tips
By Norma McCormick
- Entrance Mats - using entrance mats inside & outside of the doorways will reduce the amount of soil brought onto your carpet. Up to 75% of dirt and grime are tracked in on carpets. Vacuuming - The most important thing you can do for your carpeting is to vacuum frequently. 79% of dirt can be removed by vacuuming. A vacuum with a beater bar gives the best results. Soil and sand are abrasive and can actually damage carpet fibers. Your carpets act as filter trapping dust, pollutants, and other contaminates.
- Professional cleaning - Most carpet manufacturers recommend steam cleaning extraction to remove the unwanted substances from your carpet fibers. Some do it yourself cleaning methods leave a residue, which attracts and holds dirt.
- Clean up Spills immediately - The quicker you can clean up a spill the easier it is to remove. Always blot a spill. Use clean, white absorbent cloths. Never rub - this can make the stain worse and alter the look of the fibers.
- Carpet & Fabric Protectors - Protect carpets and upholstery from soils and stains by having them treated with protectors. It makes the removal of dirt easier and helps to restore stain blocking performance against food and spots, while extending the life of your carpets and fibers. Every day wear and tear will begin to remove protectors over time in heavily used areas. It is ideal to have it reapplied while the fibers are clean.

Leather Cleaning
- Leather tanneries and manufacturers world wide recommend proper cleaning and protection treatments every six months to extend the life of the leather and prevent premature cracking, peeling and color loss.
- Consumers are frequently told that leather is low maintenance and can be easily wiped off with mild soap and water.
With this approach exist several problems:
- Unfortunately low maintenance is usually interpreted as NO maintenance.
- “Protected” leathers have a durable pigmented finishes, not indestructible
- Aniline and Nubuck leathers are not low maintenance, since these leathers are extremely porous they should be cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis to protect the looks of your investment and prolong the life of the leather
- Atmospheric soil like the dust that builds up in the coffee table also deposit on the leather an too compound that we have air borne cooking oils and atmospheric pollution that is present and deposited as well,
- common soil such as sand dirt and plant fiber are easily transferred to leather, directly or indirectly
- dyes and inks are often deposited on leather such as newspapers and denim and an occasional pen
- oils and greases both from human and animals cause soil to attach and hold onto leather
- Our trained, experienced technicians can clean and protect your leather furnishings safely on site.
